How do I, as a leader, gain a better understanding of staff?

One of the most powerful things you can do as a person is listen. Listen to others without judgement, without preconceiving what they will say, without interupting and without prejudice. We not only become a better person for it but also gain an insight to the needs and understandings of our colleagues. Cheryl Doig is an amazing leader who has inspired me on many occasions.
