Personalising Learning

Technology in Education - The First 200 000 years

Ruben R. Puentedura

All language is generic until its framed by experience.

What does it mean to teach collaboratively?
What are our experiences of this?

What is a one to one program?
- accessible
- adaptable
- mobility
- flexible

Issues that face us in this journey

  • pedagogy
  • community
  • buy in
  • child safety
  • management
  • types of devices
Eight Elements for Success - Strategic Planning for Success
  • Vision - articulating the why TED Talks - the golden circle of why.
  • Student Learning - the way we are delivering the curriculum to change how we think about teaching and learning.
  • Team - establish a team within and across schools. Invite resistant ones to set the pace of change.
  • Professional Learning - personalising the journey
  • Community
  • Financial Sustainability - what opportunities are there to create a equal opportunity
  • Measurement - talk about where you are and where you want to head to with community
  • Environment Design  - infrastructure, applying SAMR model in how they are being used.
All agreed - the why must come first - leading change.
What would come next and why?

Sharing learning???

Screen chomp
Awesome little app that the children showed me how to use. It records voice, shares ideas, and learning, draw, use photos, or doodle. Its free!

Maths Machine??

Maths Machine

This app aligns with NZ curriculum and the kids love it.
It sets learning goals at the start, provides certificates when achieved goals and is great to look at. Very child friendly.

Maths Sums?

Find Sums App

Great way to increase knowledge in ways to make sums up to a number in different ways. Can take a while but speed will be the challenge. You can put the child's name in it and the games goes up in levels Parents can also get involved to monitor progress and set targets.

How can I get a wider audience for my class blog?

www.bubblews.com
It goes without saying that managing a class blog is a bit of work!. The worst part is when you feel like no one is even looking at it. Some very very people have collaboratively put together this slideshow of different things they have done to get a powerful and interactive audience. I can't wait to try some of their suggestions.

Another useful tip is if you use your mobile device for blogging this is an app you must get!!
It allows you to take video, photos, manage and change settings on your blog while on the run. Reduce the time you spend uploading and downloading images. Its free!

Ladybug Maths

This app has been recommended by many teachers and is great app that insists on thinking. There are several apps in a series including addition and subtraction. Kids taught me how to use it!

Educreations

This is such a great app for kids to use to create lessons of their learning for others, retell stories, create their own designs in technology, and make up their own stories for sharing with others.
Its easy to use and the kids can independently record themselves. A great way to use it is by recording one of your lessons with children interacting then they can watch it the next day before seeing you for their lesson. They love listening to themselves and has proven to be very engaging.
It is also a powerful way to record the way we teach numeracy and post on your blog to support parents at home.

Find My iphone

Preview

A must have for apple devices. There is one for androids also. Never lose your device again.
Please note, I believe you must have your wifi always turned on, location on and you must download the app for it to work. On an iphone you just need to activate the app as it sits within your phone.
